The last bridge deck of ‘Osman Gazi’

The largest part of the Gebze-Orhangazi-Izmir motorway project, The Izmir Bay Crossing has been completed. The project will reduce the travel time between Istanbul and Izmir from 9 hours to 3,5 hours.

The project listed as the 4th biggest suspension bridge with a tower height of 252 metres, deck width of 35,93 metres, 1,550 metre gap in between and 2,682 metres in total height. 99,5 percent of the north and south anchorage blocks have been completed.

On Thursday the 21st of April 2016 President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Prime minister Ahmet Davutoğlu and The Minister of Transport, Maritime and Communications Binali Yıldırım screwed the last deck of the bridge named “Osman Gazi” together, connecting the two sides.

The Gebze-Orhangazi-Izmir motorway(including The Izmit Bay Crossing and access roads), which is also the largest build-operate-transfer project in Turkey with almost 9 billion dollars in investments, with 384 metres in motorways and 49 metres in access roads will be 433 metres in total. The project will begin with a bridged junction to be organised 2,5 km towards Ankara (2×5 lanes) and will finish at the station intersection on the Izmir beltway.

By these means we would like to specially thank and express our gratitude to our honourable President and we would like to thank and express our gratitude to our honourable Prime minister, precious government members, our Highway Team under the supervision of the General Directorate of Highways, our partners Özaltın, Makyol and Astaldi who were present in the consortium we were the head of, all banks and finance companies who supported our project financially and all of our personnel who worked with great devotion for this project to progress faster than planned.
