TÜMAD Madencilik Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş., which continues its activities in line with international standards respecting nature, people, and the environment, has added a new one to Sustainable Community Development Projects.
The “Strawberry Scented Fields” project was implemented with a ceremony in cooperation with Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality Rural Services Department, Havran Municipality, and TÜMAD Mining to revive strawberry production, which was carried out in the Çakırdere District of Havran district in Balıkesir previously but has started to be forgotten due to economic impossibilities in recent years.
Balıkesir Metropolitan Mayor Yücel Yılmaz, who in person helped the seedlings to meet the soil, said, “First of all, I would like to thank the TÜMAD Mining Facility officials. If there is activity, there is abundance. They brought action here, and fertility will follow. ”
As part of the Sustainable Community Development Project, under the leadership of TÜMAD Mining, 220 thousand strawberry seedlings met soil benefitting 44 households in the Çakırdere Neighbourhood of Havran District in cooperation with Balıkesir Metropolitan and Havran Municipalities.
The Strawberry Scented Fields project is planned to increase agricultural production. The project’s aim, in addition to the increase in individual farming, is that the whole village produces strawberries to increase the bargaining share of the village. At the beginning of 2022, an agreement was reached with an industrial organization on wholesale purchase as a village. With their added value, 220 thousand strawberry seedlings will breathe life into both Çakırdere and Balıkesir economies.
