A historical day was witnessed in the district of Hasankeyf, which is now completely submerged under the waters of the Ilısu Reservoir. In the first boat tour to be made in the district, historical sites were visited for the first time. The Şab Valley was filled after historical artifacts were removed. Canal Hasankeyf, as well as the floating dock built for boat tours and the former settlement of Hasankeyf, which hosts hundreds of historical artifacts, are set to become touristic attractions. Shepherd Ahmet said that when the hundreds of caves [in the region] are opened for tourism, boutique hotels and historical sites will begin hosting Turkish and foreign visitors, and added: “Previously, taking a boat tour, and even sailing on water, were like a dream, but today they have both come true.”
