Digging has started in the area between Orhangazi and Bursa, which is part of the Gebze-Orhangazi-Izmir Highway that will start from Istanbul, go through Bursa and reach Izmir. Digging has begun for the 3,5-kilometers long Samanli tunnel which will be constructed between Yalova and Orhangazi. The Samanli Tunnel, one of the most challenging stage of the Gebze-Orhangazi-Izmir Highway Project, will comprise two tube tunnels. The entrance of the tunnel on Yalova side will start from Laledere and the Orhangazi entrance from Ortakoy, and the tunnel will go under Samanli Mountains. Digging has started near Ortaköy in Orhangazi for 3,5-kilometers long tunnels. About 50 meters distance has been covered for the first tunnel. The construction of the tunnel is planned to be completed in about 3 years.
